Background:

Kyalo Kavengwa was born on 19th April, 2000 and is 11 years old. His mother was not married and she passed away on 11th February 2001 from a stomach complication, at the age of 23 years. He is in standard (grade) 4 and in his last exams, he was position 26 out of 40 kids with 204 marks out of the possible 600 marks. He lives with his 70+ grandfather, 59 year old grandmother, standard (grade) 8 sister and 4 cousins.

His grandparents earn an income from selling their farm produce from their 2 acre piece of land. They plant macadamia nuts, avocado, mangoes, bananas, maize, beans, cowpeas, cassava and coffee. They also have 1 cow and 2 chickens. The house is made of brick and iron sheets and he sleeps on the floor with one of his cousins and they use rags for beddings.

He has ringworms and his wish list includes clothes, uniform, shoes, school administration fees, food, textbooks, school bag, pens, reading lamp, bed, mattress, bed sheets and blankets. This can be fulfilled with a $157 donation.
